Oat Porridge
with Holiday Spices


It’s no secret that I love oats. I also love the holiday season! There is something about cuddling
up indoors with loved ones that makes me feel so cozy inside. I make this dish throughout the
year and it always reminds me of those special celebrations.

 

 


Servings: 4 x 1 cup
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time:
13-15 minutes

Ingredients
1 cup / 240 ml steel-cut oats
2 Tbsp / 30 ml oat bran
2 Tbsp / 30 ml chia seeds
1 Tbsp / 15 ml cracked flaxseed
8 dates, roughly chopped
8 dried plums (prunes), roughly chopped
¼ tsp / 1.25 ml ground cinnamon
¹⁄₈ tsp / 0.625 ml ground cloves
¹⁄₈ tsp / 0.625 ml ground ginger
Pinch sea salt


Method
1. Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan with 3 cups of water. Bring to a boil,
then reduce heat to simmer gently, stirring occasionally. Cook 10 minutes for a chewier
texture and 12 minutes for softer texture. Remove from heat, cover, and let sit for
3 minutes. Serve hot with low-fat kefir, low-fat milk or milk replacement, such as
soy, rice or almond milk.
